Thanks to everyone for all of the calls, texts, and emails checking in on Luke and his EEG on Monday. We think it's good news but have been waiting for clarification from the neurologist before posting an update. He's my least favorite of all of Luke's doctors as his bedside manner and communication leave a bit to be desired. However, our pediatrician called very excitedly to tell us that the report she received looks as if there was no sign of the hypsarrhythmia (huge!!!), but it was labeled as "mildly abnormal" overall. The neurologist left us a message that the EEG showed significant improvement, so now we are just waiting to hear back from him to clarify what the "mildly abnormal" means. It could potentially be related to the eye movements we've been seeing over the last week or so, but more to come later once we have an update.
The best news of all is that our sweet, happy Luke is slowly resurfacing! He's on week 3 of the treatment (5 more weeks to go), which means we are down to just one injection every other day. Therefore, he doesn't seem quite as agitated and ravenous as he was the first two weeks of the treatment. Even better, this past Sunday Luke started smiling and giggling again! He had occupational therapy today and had his best session yet, without crying or falling asleep through it. Even the therapist had tears of joy at how well he did and how different his demeanor appeared compared to the last six weeks or so. Tomorrow we see the cardiologist again for an EKG to make sure there have been no negative side effects on his heart due to the treatment. Otherwise, we continue to wait anxiously each day for more of those beautiful smiles and giggles!
Great news, Jana!! We're smiling over here for all of you! :)
